
Primary Responsibility
Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance & Administration, the Director of Budget & Finance is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the college-wide budget and financial planning functions. This includes independently driving budget development, ensuring timely completion of critical financial deliverables, and maintaining full ownership of financial operations and outcomes.
The Director serves as a key strategic partner to senior leadership, providing clear financial analysis, projections, and recommendations. This role requires proactive identification of issues, development of solutions, and consistent follow-through to ensure all financial processes are completed accurately and on time.
In addition, the Director provides technical accounting expertise, leads audit coordination, and oversees banking, investments, student accounts, and cash flow management. Success in this role requires strong leadership, proactive communication, the ability to manage competing priorities, and the discipline to execute consistently without reliance on close supervision.
This is an on-site position and the schedule is 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience to meet the rigors of the position. Examples may include a Bachelor’s Degree and five years related experience, or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Degree in a related field and progressive experience in management and leadership roles required. Minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience required.
Masters in Accounting or Finance and CPA license highly preferred.
Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: Knowledge of: in-depth understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); supervisory principles and practices; and experience with standard Microsoft Office software products. Advanced Excel skills required. Experience with Workday financial systems and reporting strongly preferred.

Hiring range = $117,805.56 - $130,895.07 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Minimum Qualifications:
Essential Duties
Budget & Planning - Lead the planning, development, and execution of the college-wide budget. Maintain a deep, working understanding of all aspects of the budget and proactively guide others in its interpretation and use. Develop and maintain complex financial models to support forecasting and decision-making. Co-Chair the Funding Formula Committee and partner closely with campus leadership. Ensure all budget materials, including those for the Board of Trustees, are complete, accurate, and delivered on schedule.
Audit & Financial Integrity - Lead audit preparation and coordination, ensuring all schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are accurate and completed on time. Maintain accountability for the integrity of financial data, including balance sheet and income statement accounts, reserves, payroll liabilities, and related financial reporting.
Financial Leadership & Analysis - Provide proactive financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making across the College. Develop and present financial reports and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees. Identify risks, trends, and opportunities and ensure timely communication and resolution.
Team Leadership - Hire, develop, and supervise staff, fostering accountability, clarity, and high performance. Provide clear direction, regular feedback, and oversight to ensure team deliverables meet expectations. Maintain full accountability for the accuracy and quality of team output.
Cash & Treasury Management - Manage banking relationships, investments, and cash flow to ensure liquidity and compliance with Board policy and state statutes. Proactively monitor cash position and identify risks or opportunities.
Student Accounts Oversight - Provide leadership and support for the college-wide Student Accounts function, ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of student financial transactions, receivables, and account reconciliations. Partner with staff to maintain strong internal controls, consistent processes, and effective practices across all locations, while maintaining overall accountability for the completeness, audit readiness, and reliability of student account balances and reporting.
Compliance & Controls - Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements. Strengthen internal controls and proactively recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and systems.
Professional Judgment, Initiative & Accountability - Consistently exhibit a high level of professional judgment, initiative, and accountability. Success is measured by the ability to independently deliver accurate, timely results and provide proactive leadership in support of the College’s financial operations and strategic goals.

Supervision Received
This position works with general guidance from a senior administrator.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibility for staff and student employees, including assignment of work, oversight of performance, and support of development and accountability.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check including a motor vehicles records report required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
Some travel will be required, and evening or weekend hours are common, especially during peak seasons.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
