Hiring Range: $110,631- $135,523 annually. Maximum earning potential $160,415

The Town of Eagle is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Building Official to lead our Building Department and help us maintain the safety, beauty, and integrity of our growing community. About the Role: As a Building Official, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all building inspections, planning reviews, code compliance, and permit issuance. You’ll serve as the town’s go-to expert on building safety and code enforcement while managing a small but mighty team. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety—whether you're inspecting commercial sites, advising contractors, presenting to town trustees, or reviewing new development plans, no two days are the same.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the building department and supervise inspection staff and permit technician
• Perform detailed field and office inspections for residential and commercial properties
• Review construction plans for compliance with local, state, and national codes
• Investigate code violations and unsafe structures; issue corrective actions as needed
• Work closely with the Community Development Team to ensure land use code compliance
• Provide expert advice to contractors, homeowners, and public officials
• Keep current with code changes and attend public meetings as required

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for collaborating with diverse stakeholders including contractors, engineers, homeowners, and elected officials
• Problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in high-stakes situations
• Attention to detail when conducting inspections, reviewing plans, and maintaining records
• Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with seasonal demands
• Technological proficiency in using inspection software, databases, and Microsoft Office tools
• Commitment to public service and the values of ethical conduct, customer service, and team collaboration
Education and Experience Qualifications
• Minimum of four years as a building inspector required.
• ICC Certifications Preferred: plans examiner, building inspector, plumbing, mechanical and or building official
• Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field of study preferred
• Valid Colorado State Driver’s License and Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
• General knowledge of municipal planning and building processes is desired
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle office equipment and materials, climb, balance, crawl, twist, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and reach.
• The employee must have the physical ability to climb up to rooftops and crawl in tight spaces to perform a complete inspection.
• May be exposed to outdoor hazards such as insect bites, spiders, and allergens.
• Personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary where the hazard exists (hard hat, safety shoes, work gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
• This job requires speaking, hearing and the ability to distinguish objects in low and bright light using visual capacity including peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, ability to adjust focus and far and near acuity to perform responsibilities of the position.
• Ability to travel independently within Town limits and operate a vehicle is required.
• Ability to walk on uneven ground while on construction sites.
• Must be able to lift, carry or move moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (25-50 lbs.) frequently, objects weighing 50-75 lbs. occasionally.
Expected Hours of Work: Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee should be available from Monday through Friday during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours during the construction season and may attend some evening meetings.
