Primary Responsibility
Under the general supervision of the Human Resources Manager or designee, the Human Resources Generalist provides professional support across a broad range of HR functions, including recruitment and hiring, employee services, benefits support, HR systems, and compliance activities. The role serves as a point of contact for employees and supervisors, applies established HR policies and procedures, and supports institutional goals related to compliance, equity, and employee experience. The position works under general supervision and exercises judgment within defined policies and guidelines.
The Human Resources Generalist utilizes Workday as the system of record to execute HR transactions and support established workflows for Human Capital Management (HCM), Recruiting, Benefits, and Absence. This role follows defined procedures, relies on training materials and guidance, and escalates complex system, compliance, or employee relations matters to senior HR staff.
This is an on-site position and the schedule is 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards
Education and Experience sufficient for the rigors of the position, for example: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in human resources, business management/administration, or closely related field and two years related work experience in human resources, administrative support or related professional role or equivalent education and experience necessary for the position responsibilities. Demonstrated interest in developing HR technology and systems proficiency.
Experience within the area of Human Resources in areas such as HR fundamentals, employment practices and hiring, recruitment, benefits, etc. preferred. Knowledge of and experience working in Workday HRIS preferred.
Notary Public in the State of Colorado, or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Proficiency with HR information systems and standard office technology. Hiring range = $65,716.46 - $73,018.29 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Pet insurance, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, annual & sick time, mental health resources, healthy lifestyle benefits, affordable transitional housing may be available to the successful candidate based on eligibility and availability, relocation if applicable. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:
Essential Duties
Recruitment, Hiring & Workforce Support
Support recruitment and hiring activities for adjunct, part time staff and work study hiring as assigned, including job postings, applicant tracking, documentation review, and onboarding coordination.
Assist supervisors and search participants with recruitment processes, timelines, and institutional hiring requirements.
Review applications and hiring materials for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with institutional standards.
Draft, update, and maintain staff position descriptions in collaboration with supervisors; review for accuracy, consistency, equity, and accessibility.
Coordinate employment offers and onboarding activities, including preparation of offer letters and hiring documentation.
Support recruitment practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Manage data integrity and manage duplicate management within Workday for candidates.
Employee Services, Relations & Leave Support
Respond to employee and supervisor inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and routine personnel matters.
Provide guidance on basic employee relations and performance issues; escalate complex or sensitive matters to HR leadership.
Support leave administration activities, including tracking documentation and system updates for FMLA and other protected leaves.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all employee interactions.
HR Systems, Payroll Interface & Benefits Support
Use Workday and related HR systems to process and maintain accurate employee records, including hires, job changes, compensation updates, leaves, and terminations.
Assist with onboarding, rehire processing, and benefits initiation in coordination with payroll and benefits timelines.
Support benefits administration activities, including enrollment support, employee communications, and general benefits inquiries.
Review HR reports related to benefits eligibility, retirement eligibility, unemployment claims, and institutional reporting.
Serve as a liaison with Payroll and Central Services for I9 and EVerify processing as assigned.
Complete employment verifications and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) documentation.
Maintain HR data and records to support audits, compliance, and reporting requirements.
Manage departmental purchasing, bill processing, designated buyer and financial tracking, including annual renewal of purchase orders, processing monthly invoices, and coordinating department purchases.
Compliance, Training & Accessibility Support
Support compliance with employment laws, regulations, and institutional policies, including ADA and accessibility requirements.
Assist with ensuring job postings, onboarding materials, training content, and HR communications are accessible.
Participate in and support HR related training, orientations, and onboarding sessions.
Help develop and maintain HR communications, announcements, and website content using established platforms.
Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, documentation, and workflows.
Participate in HR initiatives, institutional events, and special projects as assigned.
Supervision Received
This position is under the supervision of the Human Resources Manager or assignee.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position may supervise part-time staff and students and serve as a lead to others in the department.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check will be required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
This position may require travel throughout the CMC service area, and occasional travel outside of the service area for professional development or other meeting requirements.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
