
Summit County Mountain Bike Alliance (SCoMBA)
The Summit County Mountain Bike Alliance (SCoMBA) seeks a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as SCoMBA's chief executive officer and primary public representative.
The Executive Director is responsible for organizational leadership, fundraising, membership, events, community engagement, governmental partnerships, and trails. Working closely with the Board, volunteers, public agencies, sponsors, and community partners, the Executive Director ensures that Summit County's trail system remains sustainable, accessible, and world-class.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Organizational Management
Work closely with the Board of Directors to implement organizational priorities, strategic goals, and annual operating plans.
Provide regular updates and recommendations regarding finances, fundraising, trail projects, and organizational performance.
Support Board development, committee work, and long-range planning.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
Develop and manage budgets, performance objectives, and organizational systems.
Serve as SCoMBA's primary spokesperson and public representative.
Fundraising & Financial Sustainability
Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, individual giving, sponsorships, grants, events, and online campaigns.
Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, foundations, and community supporters.
Identify and pursue new funding opportunities to support organizational growth and trail initiatives.
Oversee grant writing, administration, and reporting requirements.
Track fundraising performance and work with the Board to achieve annual revenue goals.
Membership, Community Engagement & Communications
Grow and retain membership through outreach, events, volunteer opportunities, and effective communications.
Foster a strong volunteer culture that supports trail stewardship and organizational sustainability.
Build partnerships with local businesses, schools, recreation organizations, and community groups.
Oversee marketing, social media, website content, email communications, and public relations.
Promote the impact of SCoMBA's trails, projects, volunteers, and community partnerships.
Trail Stewardship, Advocacy & Partnerships
Oversee planning, development, maintenance, and stewardship of SCoMBA-supported trail systems and infrastructure.
Coordinate trail projects with volunteers, contractors, trail crews, land managers, and partner organizations.
Serve as SCoMBA's primary liaison with the U.S. Forest Service, Summit County, municipalities, recreation districts, and other public land agencies.
Represent SCoMBA in planning processes, public meetings, and collaborative land-use discussions.
Advocate for sustainable trail development, responsible recreation, and continued access to public lands.
Assist with permitting, environmental review, and agency approval processes for trail projects.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in nonprofit management, business, recreation management, environmental studies, communications, or a related field. Masters’ degree a plus.
Five or more years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, outdoor recreation, public lands, fundraising, or a related field.
Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant acquisition, donor development, and sponsorship cultivation.
Experience managing budgets, projects, volunteers, and stakeholder relationships.
Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
Experience working with boards of directors, public agencies, and community partners.
Proficiency with Google Workspace, CRM systems, donor management platforms, and social media tools.
Preferred
Experience working with the U.S. Forest Service, local governments, recreation districts, or other public land agencies.
Knowledge of trail planning, construction, maintenance, and outdoor recreation management.
Experience leading volunteer programs and community engagement initiatives.
Familiarity with mountain biking culture and trail advocacy organizations.
A strong connection to Summit County and its outdoor recreation community.

Position Details
Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt
Location: Summit County, Colorado
Salary: $65,000-$80,000 DOE
Benefits: Health Insurance Stipend, Paid Time Off, and Professional Development Opportunities
Evening and weekend work required, including Board meetings, public meetings, trail projects, and community events. Workload is seasonal, with greater demands during spring and summer trail, fundraising, and event seasons.
