We're looking for an adventurous spirit with a love for the outdoors, ski towns, Western culture and the unique stories that bind it all together. This job works Sunday to Thursday. We work together in our Tabernash office four days a week, and you will be encouraged to spend half your time out in the county — which is about 1,850 square miles, larger than Rhode Island — to attend meetings and events, and to get to know the people who make this place what it is. This job is focused on covering northern and western Grand County, which includes the communities of Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs, Parshall and Kremmling. Candidates who live in these communities are preferred. The pay range is $43K to $46K depending on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance after 60 days of employment, $500 recreation bonus after six months and 401K plan with a company match after one year. Season pass discounts are also available. Responsibilities include:• Generate six to eight stories a week.• Take photos and videos every day.• Use social media and human connections to source leads, share stories and cover trending news and community concerns.• Work with community leaders to prioritize coverage and maintain accountability.• Be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment. Think on your feet and be ready to adjust at a moment’s notice. • Ensure accuracy, fairness and correct spelling in all reporting.• Make assigned deadlines without exception.• Balance long-form journalism with regular daily news and briefs. • Contribute to the vision and direction of editorial content.• Be a team player who’s willing to step into any role. • Act ethically in your professional and personal life. Qualifications:• Journalism, English, communications degree or equivalent work experience.• One year of newsroom experience preferred, although this can be a great first-time opportunity for an intrepid, ambitious reporter who is open to feedback and willing to learn on the job.• Must be available to cover breaking news on nights and weekends as needed.
